The Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Intern position is intended to assist the corporate EHS manager with project support while providing the student with valuable work experience related to their chosen field.
The student should be sophomore level or higher with a path to obtain their degree in EHS or Human Resource from an accredited college. It is preferred that general coursework includes some of the following; safety management, behavioral based safety, regulatory compliance, accident investigation, environmental laws, OSHA, occupational safety, machine guarding, workers compensation, safety training, LO/TO, Hazcom, fall protection, JSA, ergonomics or health related classes.
Support regulatory compliance adherence at a corporate level. This is successfully accomplished by understanding, updating and implementing regulatory requirements programs and policies.
Typical Job Duties:
Training - Improve/Create a library of safety training. Catalog and share PowerPoints with all sites. Utilize JJ Keller, Zurich and FM training resources.
Metrics - Update/summarize/analyze safety metrics.
Safety, Health, Environmental Manual (SHEM) – Revise, Update and create corporate programs and policies in SHEM. Schedule, set up and organize documents for training on these programs/policies across the entire organization. Work with remote sites and help them update their site specific applicable policies. Properly name and locate policies in the corporate SharePoint (Organizational Safety) file locations.
Update Asbestos Inspection - Connect with EMC and Maintenance to document current Middleton facility asbestos locations. After update is complete - schedule training with maintenance team to communicate locations and conduct required Level II training.
Chemical Review Process - Work with manufacturing leaders outside of Middleton to implement a chemical review program.
Safety Data Sheets (SDS) - Work with Middleton manufacturing leaders to update/eliminate/add SDS's in SAFTEC to comply with regulatory “Right to Know” requirements.
Communicate - provide project status/updates, maintain project list and provide routine updates on activities. Involved in continuous improvement initiatives following process improvement methods.
Quality - Integrates quality at the source thinking and activities in daily, individual, team and project work.
